20 singapore artillery

phew jus came back home after sending germ home.. reached home abt 8pm... left around 9.15pm and headed to cathay lorr... bought yummy cheesecake n banana milkshake from starbucks for us.. haha.. den toon train home lor.. abit crazy but worth it!

well i think some of ur know how i felt abt artillery unit when i went in la huh... sigh yea i was rather depressed for first 2 days..... its like i ask myself wad the hell am i doing there la... i know of pple in my coy who are quiet.. low profile.. but made it to sispec.. i really duno wads wrong.. n there's a mono-intake batch already there.. non JC and poly.. now im not saying they're inferior to us but their frequency and ours really clashes at the start... EVERYONE from tekong had a super black face.. can tell that all of us are are damn damn damn low on morale..... looking at the mono-intake pple alredy so well-bonded doesn't help either... and there're alot of hokkien speaking pple.. i shant elaborate much la huh but even they themselves tell us they're v problematic during their BMT days. my company last time got one guy went DB..... on 2nd night we witnessed a confrontation between an ah beng and a new officer posted here.... its really shocking yu know.. the way their faces were so close together.. like wana fight like that... hmmm where got see such things in tekong one... that's y i say the change in environment is so big that i was feeling v down...

then i was thinking in mohawk we received so strict trainings blabla.. generally trained up to be good and stuff.. but now everything become so slack.. i duno if i shld be happy or sad that all i've learnt will never be used again.. but i have to blend in somehow... it goes only 2 ways... either end up as a loner or join them in the things they do... talk/behave like them.. i guess havta find balance la... i won't wana lose myself there either.. hmmmmm BUT i realise im beginning to pick up some stuff la... like mimicing loudly the sergeant's commands and things they usually say.. which we cant do in tekong la.. and alot more other rather funny stuff.. haha..

but things are looking bright now la... we got a preview of what we'll get when we finish our trade course in mid-september... we can like bring small tv in... playstation all those la.... even now our OC is also trying to arrange for us to view the FINALS OF WORLD CUP IN CAMP!!! woots. speaking of which i think its damn funny how we'll like when one person received news a team has scored.. then he'll let everyone know.. haha.. hmm and now we can bring cup noodles.. im so gona bring lotssss of it man.. haha.. my china guy in my detachment (section) got kettle la.. walau.. but cant bring mp3 leh sian... but with all the privilliges that we'll be getting after 3 months.. at least i've got sth to look forward to in camp la..

so far only real physical activity we had was ippt.. 5BX is really 5 counts of stuff.. only push ups burpees and jumping jacks.. haha... damn relac can.. ippt got silver la.. 100bucks.. my running really cmi la.. jump i finally break 230cm.. haha... 1st time in my life.. anyway we learnt everything abt the machine gun this week la.. today had tests on it.. all the stripping.. drills..

oh yesss sth exciting.. haha cos my bunk got 2 malays.. i got intereested in REGGAE music!! haha..... some can be sooo nice man.. like akon's banaza.. sean paul's temperature and we will be burning.. daddy yankee's gasolina and mirame.. jay sean's got my eyes on yu.. WALAU they're really nice... haha. its known as the mud's music.. malays like these generally.. haha.. quite glad i finally get to know these titles.. heard most of these b4 on radio but duno any titles.. erm if your got nth much to do can TRY listening to them la.. cos i dun think they have mass appeal like pop songs.. yupp..

anw dear's been reeally encouraging during 1st 2 days... thankew alright? yu know im v gratful to have yu around.. i no need to say much yea? =) hmmm my parents too.. they 1st time sms me saying tehy love me.. haha i actually smiled when i saw that... i know these kinda things they will only sms.. i know they cant say out in words one.. so its quite nice of them to try to express this using sms.. and my 3rd aunt.. heard from mum she's been v concerned.. calling/smsing my mum to ask abt me from time to time... but now im generally better liao.. really.. hope this continues.. =)

kkkk ima gona to sleep now..... the great thing abt being in this unit is definitely getting to book out on a friday evening and booking in on sunday night abt 9pm!! shiok la...... haha..

after that came home in cousin kelvin's car... talked abt uni and clubbing abit.. haha.. got some more insights to studying at smu.. tho he din essentially graduate from there but yea.. hmm den packed my duffel bag lor.. 4plus went out to meet germ after her work... went to PS.. haha daniel ong and jamie yeo were doing some roadshow. she's hAawt i tell yu. then we were standing by the side.. they were asking true/false questions and i raised hands with another guy.. then jamie yeo yinimainiminimoo chose him to answer.. then dear and i were abt to walk away then they asked us if we wana answer the nest question.. haha then they asked.. and at the same time nodding their heads signalling to me the answer is true.. haha so i went to the mike and answered true.. and ta-da.. won some goodie bag.. haha. then daniel ong said "nice cap".. and jamie yeo turned around as she was walking back to look at me.

anw had dinner w dear at swensens.. rather filling.. then shopped around lor.. dear bot pair of covered-toes shoe from DMK.. rather cheap. then walked arnd somemore.. took neoprint.. which was disappointing. pictures were nice man. really nice. but we chose wrong number of photos. so in the end we have 2 sets each but small ones.. sigh. den we came to clementi MACs to sit and talk....

sigh its like past 10plus days we've spent so many days tog.. jus when we start to see each other more often we have to go back to square one again.. but im glad i've a gf to go out with during this period.. tag was saying like family n friends can be there for me too.. but i told him its different.. its a special kinda connection.. like i know for sure she's always there to listen to me and to comfort me when im not feeling my best.. and there's always someone to give me a nice warm hug.. a feeling that makes me forget the pain temporarily and gradually... so yes dear.. thanks alot k? im really grateful to yu.. esp during THAT period when i was admitedly disappointed with my posting.. yup.

and my parents have been really loving too... boiling all the different soups for me... cos i've a bad cough man.. and they're like really concerened.. dad's been chiong-ing alot with his taxi these days.. hope he aint gona tire out... bot him a nice shirt for father's day.. hahaa... mum's a tad disappointed n shocked at my posting too.. actually quite alot of pple.. some seniors also quite shocked i din even make it to SISPEC.. i mean past few years i've been in quite a number of leadership positions and i believe what i've done for the pple around me and what kinda person i am is for all to see.. so i can understand why they tell me they're shocked la.. haha ohwells..

well i've come to terms with my posting actually... haha.. tmr's the day i start being an artillery man. quite cool actually.. i've seen the website with the picture of the main weapon i'll be dealing with.. got me a little excited... and spoke to/sms quite a number of pple and im starting to think of all the positive aspects of being in arty.. and more specifically being a man in arty....

yu noe dear's mum yest told me like mebe cos last time i "played around" with the navy officers.. like went through interview blabla then dun sign.. mebe i kena blacklisted or whatsoever... then anyhow throw me in some place.. *shrugs.. that one i duno wad to say.... if its really so den guess i made the mistake myself to have even expressed interest in navy?

anw spoken to hanjie last night... he was like shocked i din even make sispec.. haha. talking to him cheered me up alot.. haha bro i dun think yu'll read this but thanks alot man.. =) basically now i guess man will have more freedom and stuff... less weekends burnt and more admin time... perhaps not right from the start la.. when we'll all learn how to do this n that.. but after we've learnt everything we shld have alot of time to slack la... den arty in hanjie's words is like "KING OF THE BATTLEFIELD"... haha.. less xiong than other vocations like signals/armour/infantry.. hope no need to chiong sua too much.. cos my IMPRESSION is that arty jus drive the vehicle around, load the heavy ammunitions.. then fire off.. haha.. shouldn't be too much problem right? at least no need learn all the fire movements blabla.. =)

but of cos im abit sad at the fact that i'll be a corporal at most when i ORD... sigh yea i told him that also la... but he showed me the pros and cons of being commanders and men...
like for men yu get more time for yourself to learn driving or sepnd time with family n gf.... get tekan-ed less.. less responsibility cos yu jus do what yu are told.. more relaxed time serving NS generally...
but commanders yes they get commissioned in a sui sui parade.. parents and gf v proud of their officer son.. frens happy for them.. pple salute them... but at the same time they go thru more shit and have v little time for themself.. like what yuhang told me last time.. and they sometimes do v redundant stuff... yeaa.... hmm in simple terms its jus how i see it.. which way i choose to see...

he also say like in unit the sirs/sergeants treat the men generally better cos they fight alongside us so they need to forge a form of brotherhood with us la... and he told me about difference between training schools (BMT, OCS, SISPEC) and operational sch (the diff vocations)... the former get tekan like mad kind la while the latter more priority and stuff.. haha.. i REALLY REALLY hope this is true man.... hahah....

hmm den yest bumped into some seniors.. had a short chat with one of them afterwards at the bus-stop.. haha he say operational unit (ops) is slack after yu learn finish everything.. haha.. *phew*... like for him now he's a sergeant in a boat unit.. then he can play bball/soccer... cos yu'll only have exercises and more exercises.. as in field exercises... he also suggest i go represent their unit in some sport or sth if possible.. then can have more civilian time outside.. haha.. hmmm and he says alot depend on the pple yu work with la.. can have a very fun time slacking together and all.. if unlucky get bastards around yu den yu'll suffer for next 1.5 years... so all i hope now is good commanders and good platoon mates.. =)

hmm nip also said like he "always think if cannot go command sch den go some slack unit lor".. and he thinks arty quite slack too.... rog was like encouraging too.. telling me "SAF needs good officers but they also need good men" hahahaa... seldom rog's so positive with his words... thanks dude. haha tag's like the only one who told me arty is damn xiong la... i duno also.. shall see how..

The Cannons
The cannon is a generic or family name and a basic symbol for all tube Artillery pieces. The family is generally sub-divided into Guns, Howitzers and Mortars depending on the length of their tubes and the type of trajectory followed by their projection. Gold symbolizes loyalty to the country, President, unit and to the manoeuvre force.

The Bomb
The bomb is the ultimate weapon delivered for destruction of the enemy. Positioned above the cross barrels, it also symbolises accuracy, timeliness and firepower of all Artillery Units.

The Red Background
Red is for fire - thus firepower. No one can dispense with the Artillery in modern warfare. By injecting firepower at a crucial point, it changes the tide of battle. Firepower must come from the artillery as it is our main role.

The Blue Background
Blue symbolises 'royalty' and 'distinction'. Its interpretation for Gunners is that they are a 'Special Breed', a class of its own among the elite group.


Essentially the Singapore Artillery has two types of weapon, namely the 120 mm mortar and 155 mm Gun/Howitzer. The 120 mm mortar is the organic Brigade Artillery support weapon and the 155mm Gun/Howitzer is the Division Artillery asset. The incessant march of technology now sees the Singapore Artillery employing a formidable array of locally developed FH 88 and FH 2000 guns. With a crew of only eight men, these new generation guns can be readied for fire missions in less than two minutes and can be fired at a much faster rate.


Gone are the days of the 12-men M71 detachment, strenuously digging pits or the trail spades and manually jacking the gun into position - these images now serve only as fond memories and talking points during the gathering of Gunners.

The M71 - once the core weapon of the Singapore Artillery - was also upgraded in 1989 to keep pace with technology. The upgraded gun can now be put into action in 2 minutes by only eight men. The redesignated M71S was commissioned in 1993.

i dreamt that i had a sister..
she was raped by a man i duno...
she was damn devastated la..
but at the court for some reason he went scot-free..

sunday.. dear came over to have dinner with my parents, aunty uncle and grandma.. yummy claypot rice.. haha.. den lazed around lor... haha nth much la... missed stayover at tag's cos next day got guard duty plus i was sick.. i AM sick now still.. sigh..

monday.. guard duty back in good ol tekong.. haha.. it was ok la.. had sleep in between so not too bad.. did sentry with jiawan.. haha we started singing songs and all during the 2am to 4am shift.. haha...

tuesday.. back from tekong! went to dear's place in the afternoon... relaxed awhile den went to bugis! had a good dinner at ajisan.. v long neva eat ramen already.. haha... den walked walked abit.. did some shopping.. dear bot clothes from panther's and a belt from those stalls thingy... haha i bot a waist pouch from ZINC.. ohh im starting to like that brand.. haha.. den went to coffee bean to chill.... den headed home lorr..

yesterday! my most eventful day so far... haha... morning woke at 0645.. so early!!! headed to macritchie to paddle!! oh my.. that's like my 2nd time since nationals... went w weng lor.. guanhow cldnt wake cos of world cup.. haha.. paddled a chinese high T1... they all paddle K can... argggh. and they're like complaining their type of boat v slow.. like HEllLlo?? im paddling a tiger here. i use more energy to keep up with ur while ur slow paddle... hello??? haha.... anw it was fun la.. brought back lots of memories definitely.. hmm den went to dear's place again b4 sending her to work at cathay.... haha it was so cold there! dear kept muching on those waffles.. greedy pig.. haha.. hmm then kiet came by to see dear at work.. haha.. kiet n i bot icecream and sat down n talked lor... talked abt the class.. uni.. haha.. den we left while hardworking dear continued to work.. haha..

POP at last!!!

the day 060606 came on tuesday finally.. it rained b4 the parade.. but during the parade it completely stopped.. wad a miraculous timing... everything seems rather fated.. =)

im like quite lazy to blog.. so i'll jus blog in pictures... had dinner w bunkmates yesterday too.. den at night went to gerald's house to swim, snack and drink vodka mixers! haha THAT is life man.... yu guys rock la....!!

all i can say is that past 2 months has been unforgettable.. the friends made, the activities done, the sweat, the pain, the hardships...

wonderful memories...

thanks mum dad n germ for being so ever thoughtful and bearing and concerned and loving and understanding... haha..

at tis moment i duno to feel happy or to feel sad leh.. i duno.. i'd love to pass out from bmt and not to take the stupid "fast" craft or the long bus rides from pasir ris to saf ferry terminal.. but at the same time i'd hate to part with MOHAWK and my section.... sigh damn mixed feelings la..

anw last week was pretty fun.. had SOC... which im damn happy about.. cos i actually had chest injury during last SOC b4 field camp.. which is like 3 weeks ago? due to the irritating parallel bar.. den chest bone like went abit outta position.. till now i still feel pain when doing certain actions.. sigh. but this SOC i passed everything! i was VERY VERY afraid of the jumps from high ground.. i was thinking that it'll be the end of me if the jump makes my chest bone jut to awkward position even more.. den i'll have to downgrade and all.. all the scary images were gg thru my mind b4 SOC... sigh. but when i came to the station i jus heck la... cos i had morale boost after clearing parallel beam... duno timings tho.. had to wait like so long for the stations cos pple keep getting stuck and all... but i dun care.. cos i managed to pass all the stations.. timings mebe next time den try to improve lor..

den had grenade throwing, 16km route march, reruits' night, games day... sigh speaking of games day right.. i was quite sad i din play a single match of tug-of-war la... sigh.. cos 1st round sir took me and 2 other heavy guys out so as to not exceed the 700kg limit.. sian.. then he say will play around with reserves for next few matches but eventually he didn't... so we were like watching by the side.. while knowing we wld have made a diff somehow cos we're definitely stronger than a few pple inside pulling... but ohwells its over.. scorpion won eventually.. they were really good la.. they slaughtered ulecis (however the hell you spell that) like anything.. games day was pretty good for us.. got overall 2nd!! haha.. den we're cheering like mad la.. "MOHAWK COMPANY AH... BEST COMAPNY AH... TOGETHER... FOREVER... FUCKING FIT AHHH......"

anw riday was out long-awaited 24km route march..... it didn't daunt upon me its like how significant till it really began.. yes sam we were made to rush like mad too.. we're like one of the last companies to eat lunch.. previously we waited like damn long la.. suck thumb. den MOHAWK WAS LEADING THE WHOLE SCH FOR THE MARCH!!! haha... shiok feeling for all of us... even more shiok when my platoon 2 was leading in front.. cos we rotate internally ma... yup.. den we were singing army songs for 1st 4km.. after that started singing pop/rock/hip hop/rap/LOVE SONGS.... our favourite man.. haha.. den got once when leaving rest point i started chanting "mohawk.. mohawk... mohawk..." den whole mohawk continued.. den everyone turned their heads and looked at us la!! how cool is that......... hahaha.....

then last 1km or so we chanted like mad too.. haha.. even held our rifles above our heads while me marched into the school... i think we're the only siao company that does that... and we RANNNN into the parade square while doing warrior cry la... while shouting i FELT LIKE CRYING... i really did.... like all the bmt emotions jus overwhelmed me at that moment.. sumore we're 1st company to reach PLUS our platoon was leading in front too... oh myy... that feeling is jus great la... i was feeling quite bad at about 20km... but felt better after 22km cos more adredeline la i guess... yupp.....

now i've 2 blisters on my leg only.. think quite good alr la.. plus abit of ache lor that's all... going to play bball with canoe mates in school soon... actually think i'll be late.. haha..

anw yest dear came to fetch me again! haha.. dear's like sooo nice.. she's sent me in EVERY SINGLE TIME except for the 1st week..... heh who else can boost of having sucha girlfren you tell me? -beams proudly and satisfyingly- hahah.... yea i really app her for sending me down to pasir ris each time.. esp since she stays like on the other end at BOON LAY???? then poor dear has to take train back all the way herself.. -twitches mouth- but ok after tonight no more pasir ris already.... yea!! hopefully it'll be at command sch lor.. near her house.. haha.. hmm we went to marina sq to have dinner.. wanted yuki yaki but too many pple so we ate at cavana instead.. then headed to esplanade kia kia... miss that place..
